On an Electrolux front-load washer, E21 (long pump-out time) and E41 (door switch reads open) are the two codes most worth checking yourself. SU dS means oversudsing was detected, E35 means the pressure sensor indicates water overfill, E11 a long fill time, E42 a door lock device failure, and LOC simply means the control lock is switched on.
The documented code list
| Code | What Electrolux’s support articles say |
|---|---|
| E21 | Long pump-out time — water isn’t pumping out fast enough or is taking too long to empty |
| E41 | The control board thinks the door switch is open |
| E42 | Door lock device failure |
| E11 | Long fill time |
| E35 | The pressure sensor indicates water overfill |
| SU dS | Oversudsing detected — the washer will run additional rinses until the suds clear |
| LOC | The control lock is switched on, locking the controls between cycles |
E21: Long pump-out time
- Check the drain hose
Look for kinks or blockages — Electrolux notes this is the most common cause.
- Check the hot and cold connections
Confirm the hot line goes to the hot inlet and cold to cold — reversed lines are a known installation issue.
- Check the drain hose installation
Confirm it is connected as described in the use and care manual.
See our washing machine troubleshooting guide for general drain checks.
E41 and E42: Door codes
For E41, confirm the door is fully closed, check for clothes or debris blocking it, listen for a click as it latches, and check that the latch and striker are working. E42 points to the door lock device itself failing, which usually means a replacement part.
E11: Long fill time
This means the washer is taking too long to fill. Check that both water taps are fully open and that the inlet hoses are not kinked, and see our washer overflowing guide if the opposite problem is happening.
E35: Water overfill
Electrolux’s steps: press cancel to clear the error and start to resume; if it persists, do a hard reset by disconnecting the power cord, reconnecting, and restarting. If the washer was recently installed or moved, a known installation issue may be involved — have your installer check it.
SU dS and LOC
SU dS means too many suds were detected — use high-efficiency detergent in the recommended amount, and press cancel to dismiss; the washer adds rinse cycles on its own (roughly 5 minutes each). See our too many suds guide. LOC means the control lock is on, a safety feature that prevents accidental operation; scroll to the control lock option and press select to unlock it. Cycles will not run while it is active.
When to call for service
Electrolux’s guidance is to contact your installer if the washer was installed within the last 30 days, and to schedule Electrolux service otherwise, if a code persists after the steps above.
