Bosch does not publish a full list of refrigerator error codes for consumers — it documents only a handful of specific codes and treats most others as a signal to call for service. The manufacturer’s own support guidance for an “E” or “D” style code on the display is to power-cycle the unit first, then call Bosch Customer Support if it returns.
Why there is no full code list
Unlike some other manufacturers, Bosch does not publish an exhaustive refrigerator error code table on its official owner-support site. Bosch’s own documentation focuses on a small number of specific codes and otherwise treats any displayed error as a general fault to be reset and, if it persists, diagnosed by a technician. Third-party sites list longer code tables (E01, E13, E14, E15, E17 and similar), but these are not confirmed on Bosch’s own support pages and can vary by control-board revision and model year — so we are not reproducing them here as fact.
The codes Bosch does document
| Code | What Bosch says it means |
|---|---|
| E02 | The icemaker is faulty, or there is a communication issue between the icemaker and the ice/water system controls |
| E03 | There is a fault with the dispenser user interface |
| “E” or “D” (general) | A general fault — Bosch’s documented response is to power-cycle the unit |
Try a power cycle first
- Switch off the refrigerator
Use the control panel if it has a power function, or proceed directly to disconnecting power.
- Disconnect power for 5 minutes
Unplug the unit, or switch off the dedicated breaker, and leave it fully de-energised for a full 5 minutes — this is the exact duration Bosch’s own support guidance specifies.
- Reconnect and check the display
Plug the unit back in and see whether the code has cleared. For E02 or E03 specifically, this same reset is the documented first step.
General fault (any “E” or “D” code)
If the display shows any error code beginning with E or D that is not E02 or E03, Bosch’s documented guidance is the same power-cycle procedure above. If the code reappears after a full 5-minute power-cycle, this indicates a fault that needs a technician rather than something a reset can clear.
When to call for service
Bosch’s own support pages direct users to Bosch Customer Support at 1-800-944-2904 (US) when a power cycle does not resolve the error, rather than attempting further self-diagnosis — a reflection of how tightly Bosch controls what consumer-level troubleshooting it recommends for its refrigeration control boards. If your fridge is also failing to cool alongside the code, see our refrigerator troubleshooting guide for checks that apply regardless of the exact code shown.
Stop and call a qualified appliance technician or electrician if you find scorched or melted wiring, smell burning, see water that has reached electrical components, or if the fault returns immediately after a repair. Never bypass a safety device — thermal fuses, door interlocks and flood switches fail for a reason, and defeating one converts a broken appliance into a fire or flood risk.
