UE on an LG washer means the load became unbalanced and the machine’s rebalancing attempt failed, so it stopped rather than spin an uneven drum. Small loads, mixed heavy and light items, and an unlevel machine are the usual causes.
What UE means
Before spinning, an LG washer runs short bursts to redistribute the laundry evenly around the drum. If the load stays lumped to one side after several attempts, the machine aborts the spin — driving an unbalanced drum at high speed can damage the suspension and, on some installs, walk the machine across the floor.

How to fix it
- Redistribute the laundry
Pause the cycle, open the door, and spread the load evenly around the drum. Add a similar item or two if the load is small and lopsided on its own.
- Level the machine
Check the machine does not rock by pressing each corner. Adjust the levelling feet and lock them in place if it does.
- Remove unsuitable items
Wash rugs, memory-foam pillows and rubber-backed mats separately — these rarely tumble evenly regardless of load size.
- Select the bedding cycle for bulky single items
LG’s bedding or heavy-duty programme is calibrated for large, dense single items and balances them differently from a standard cycle.
- Retry the cycle
Restart and watch the first few minutes of spin. If it balances and completes normally, the fault is cleared.
When to call a professional
If UE appears repeatedly on level ground with a well-spread, reasonably sized load, have a technician check the suspension springs, dampers and balance sensor.
Stop and call a qualified appliance technician or electrician if you find scorched or melted wiring, smell burning, see water that has reached electrical components, or if the fault returns immediately after a repair. Never bypass a safety device — thermal fuses, door interlocks and flood switches fail for a reason, and defeating one converts a broken appliance into a fire or flood risk.
