A worn refrigerator door seal is a quiet, common cause behind several fridge complaints that look unrelated: constant running, frost build-up, condensation, and even food freezing unexpectedly all trace back to warm air leaking in past a seal that no longer grips. The paper test
- Close the door on a sheet of paper
Position it at one point along the seal and close the door normally.
- Pull the paper out
You should feel resistance the whole way. If it slides out freely with little to no resistance, the seal is not gripping at that point.
- Repeat all the way around both doors
Test at several points along the top, bottom and both sides — a seal often fails at one section while the rest still grips fine, so a single test point can miss the problem.

Most seal replacements are genuinely manageable as a DIY job once you have the correct part.
