UE (shown as UB on some models) means the washer detected an unbalanced load during spin and stopped rather than continue. It is a safety response, not a fault report. Redistributing the load and levelling the machine clears it in most cases.
What UE / UB means
Before a Samsung washer spins, it tries to redistribute the load evenly around the drum. If that rebalancing attempt fails — usually because the laundry is bunched to one side — the machine stops the spin rather than run it out of balance, which would hammer the drum bearings and, on some models, walk the machine across the floor.

How to fix it
- Pause and redistribute the laundry
Open the door, take everything out, and reload it spread evenly around the drum rather than piled on one side. Mix heavy and light items rather than washing a single heavy item alone.
- Check the load size
A load that is too small — a single towel or one duvet — is one of the most common triggers. Add a couple of similar items to balance it out, or use a smaller cycle sized for the load.
- Level the machine
Push down on each corner in turn. If it rocks, adjust the levelling feet until all four sit firmly on the floor, then lock the feet in place with their locknuts.
- Remove unsuitable items
Rugs, memory-foam pillows, rubber-backed bath mats and heavy curtains do not tumble evenly and are common repeat offenders. Wash these separately or by hand.
- Reset and retry
Unplug the washer for a minute, plug it back in, and run the load again. If it balances and spins normally, the fault is cleared.
Occasional UE errors on odd-sized loads are normal. UE on nearly every wash, including well-spread loads of a sensible size, points to worn suspension springs or a levelling problem rather than the laundry.
When to call a professional
If the machine is level, the load is a reasonable size and evenly spread, and UE still appears repeatedly, have a technician check the suspension springs, shock dampers and balance sensor. A drum that has become loose on its bearings will also trigger constant imbalance faults and needs professional diagnosis.
Stop and call a qualified appliance technician or electrician if you find scorched or melted wiring, smell burning, see water that has reached electrical components, or if the fault returns immediately after a repair. Never bypass a safety device — thermal fuses, door interlocks and flood switches fail for a reason, and defeating one converts a broken appliance into a fire or flood risk.
