Whatever the symptom, start here. These take about fifteen minutes and cost nothing.

  1. Confirm real power at the socket

    Plug something else into the same socket. A dead socket, tripped breaker or tripped RCD explains a completely lifeless machine — and it is quicker to rule out than to assume.

  2. Check the door is genuinely latched

    Open and close it firmly. A door that looks shut but has not engaged the interlock will stop the cycle before it starts. Check the seal for a trapped sock holding the door fractionally open.

  3. Open both water taps fully

    Then pull the machine forward and straighten the inlet hoses. A hose crushed against the wall restricts flow enough to trigger a fill timeout.

  4. Clean the drain pump filter

    Behind the flap at the bottom front. Expect coins, hair grips and lint. This one job fixes a startling proportion of “broken” machines — and if the machine will not drain, it will not spin either.

  5. Redistribute the load and re-level the machine

    Take out any single heavy item, spread the rest evenly, and check the machine does not rock. Push down on each corner in turn; if it moves, adjust the feet.

Most manufacturers group their codes the same way, even though the letters differ:
