Wi-Fi connected thermostats introduce failure points beyond the classic wiring and power issues: a lost Wi-Fi connection can disable remote features while local control still works, a firmware update can occasionally cause temporary erratic behaviour, and some models are particular about needing a common (C) wire for reliable power — older homes without one sometimes see intermittent resets as a result. If the fault appeared right after an update, a Wi-Fi outage, or a change to your home network, that is worth investigating before assuming a hardware fault.
When to call an HVAC technician
Call a technician if the breaker and fuse are both confirmed fine but the thermostat is still dead, if the wiring at the thermostat looks damaged or you are not comfortable checking it yourself, if a low-voltage fuse blows again immediately after replacement (indicating a short elsewhere in the control wiring), or if the thermostat has power and responds normally but the furnace or AC unit itself never engages — at that point the fault has moved from the thermostat to the equipment it controls.
Stop and call a qualified appliance technician or electrician if you find scorched or melted wiring, smell burning, see water that has reached electrical components, or if the fault returns immediately after a repair. Never bypass a safety device — thermal fuses, door interlocks and flood switches fail for a reason, and defeating one converts a broken appliance into a fire or flood risk.
