Two of the most commonly seen Frigidaire refrigerator codes are not faults at all — SB SB means Sabbath Mode is active, and 77 77 means the unit is in retail Demo Mode. Of the genuine alerts, DI SP (or DISP) means ice is jammed in the ice chute, PF means a power outage or surge occurred, and H or HI means the refrigerator or freezer has been too warm for over an hour.
The documented code list
| Code | What Frigidaire’s official documentation says it means |
|---|---|
| SB SB | Sabbath Mode — makes the appliance function with minimum power to conform with religious guidelines |
| 77 77 | Demo Mode — for display units set up in-store without using the functional components |
| DI SP or DISP | Ice is jammed in the ice chute; an alarm sounds when a cube is stuck too long |
| PF | Indication of a power outage or power surge — can also trigger a high-temp alarm |
| H or HI (blinking) | The refrigerator or freezer temperature has been too high for over one hour |
| Door Ajar | A door has been left open for over 5 minutes |
SB SB: Sabbath Mode (not a fault)
If SB SB appears on the display, the refrigerator is intentionally running in Sabbath Mode, a feature designed to keep the appliance operating with minimum power and without triggering lights, displays, or alarms in observance of religious practice. This is not an error — check your model’s manual for how to exit this mode if it was activated unintentionally.
77 77: Demo Mode (not a fault)
This code means the unit is running in a retail demonstration mode, intended for units on a showroom floor rather than active home use — the compressor and other functional components are disabled. Frigidaire’s documented fix is to unplug the unit for 5 minutes and plug it back in, which disables Demo Mode.
DI SP / DISP: Ice jam
- Locate the ice chute
The channel between the ice maker bin and the dispenser opening in the door.
- Clear the jammed ice
Clumped cubes are the most common cause — see our ice dispenser troubleshooting guide for a fuller walkthrough if this becomes a recurring issue.
- Confirm the alarm clears
The alarm is tied directly to the jam condition and should stop once the obstruction is removed.
PF: Power outage or surge
This code is simply a record that the unit lost power or experienced a surge — not a component fault on its own. Frigidaire’s documentation notes this can also trigger a high-temperature alarm if the outage was long enough to let internal temperatures rise, so check stored food if PF appears alongside an H/HI alert.
H / HI: Temperature too high
A blinking HI most often follows an extended door-open period or a recent power interruption rather than a genuine cooling failure. Confirm both doors are sealing properly and check the door gasket before assuming the compressor or a sensor has failed — see our refrigerator troubleshooting guide for the broader cooling-fault checklist.
When to call for service
If HI persists well beyond an hour with the doors confirmed closed and sealing properly, or if PF/HI recur repeatedly with no clear power event behind them, that points toward an actual cooling system or sensor fault needing a technician.
Stop and call a qualified appliance technician or electrician if you find scorched or melted wiring, smell burning, see water that has reached electrical components, or if the fault returns immediately after a repair. Never bypass a safety device — thermal fuses, door interlocks and flood switches fail for a reason, and defeating one converts a broken appliance into a fire or flood risk.
