i20 on a Frigidaire dishwasher means the unit did not drain completely, and i40 means a clogged filter or sump — both point to a blockage you can often clear yourself. LOC and CL/Cd relate to the door (locked vs. not properly closed), and Hd/HO simply means the unit is in a normal heat-delay or heating mode, not a fault.
The documented code list
| Code | What Frigidaire’s official documentation says it means |
|---|---|
| i20 | Unit did not drain completely — check the drain hose, filters, and sump for blockages |
| i40 | Clogged filter or sump — food soils have built up in the sump |
| LOC | The door is locked |
| CL or Cd | Door is open — has not been successfully closed and latched |
| Hd or HO | Heat delay or heater-on mode — the unit is heating water to optimal temperature |
| PF | Loss of power — the unit lost electrical power |
| 01–24 | A delayed-start option has been activated |
| 1–199 | The number of minutes left in the current cycle |
| PRESS START | Not an error — an instruction to close the door within 5 seconds of pressing start |
i20 / i40: Drainage and filter codes
- Check the filter and sump first for i40
Food soil buildup in the sump is the documented cause — see our dishwasher filter cleaning guide for the full process.
- Check the drain hose route for i20
Confirm it is not kinked, and check any air gap fitting under the sink for a clog.
- Run a short cycle after clearing either
Confirm the code has cleared before loading a full cycle of dishes.
LOC / CL / Cd: Door-related codes
LOC simply confirms the door is locked, which is normal during an active cycle. CL or Cd means the opposite problem — the door has not been successfully closed and latched. Check for anything obstructing the door, and confirm it clicks fully shut before starting a cycle.
Hd / HO: Heat delay (not a fault)
These codes indicate the dishwasher is actively heating water to its target temperature before or during a cycle — documented normal operation, not an error to troubleshoot.
PF: Power loss
PF just records that the unit lost electrical power during operation. If this happens repeatedly without an obvious household power event behind it, check the outlet and circuit rather than the dishwasher itself first.
Numbers on the display: not errors
A number between 01 and 24 on the display means a delayed-start option is active, and any number between 1 and 199 is simply the remaining minutes in the current cycle — neither is a fault code.
When to call for service
Frigidaire’s own guidance notes that any message not covered in their documented list should be checked against your specific model’s Owner’s Manual, and if the issue is not resolved, to contact Frigidaire directly rather than continuing to guess at a fix.
