dE (also shown as dE1 or dE2) means the LG washer’s door was unable to lock. The door is open, not closed properly, or something is physically stopping it from sealing — laundry caught between the door and the rubber gasket is the most common cause.
What dE means
LG front-load washers check that the door is fully closed and the latch has engaged before allowing a cycle to start. dE is that check failing — either the door genuinely is not closed, or the sensor cannot confirm that it is.

How to fix it
- Push the laundry clear of the gasket
Open the door and push any clothing caught in the rubber seal deep into the drum so the door can close fully against it.
- Close the door firmly
Pull the handle to open it again, then press firmly on the centre of the door until you feel or hear it latch.
- Power cycle the machine
With the power disabled at the outlet or breaker, press and hold the START/PAUSE button for five seconds, then restore power and try again.
- Check the door alignment
With the machine unplugged, check the door sits square in the frame and the latch lines up with the strike. A door that has dropped slightly will not lock reliably.
When to call a professional
If the latch is visibly bent or broken, or the door gasket is torn or missing, have a technician inspect and replace the door lock assembly.
Stop and call a qualified appliance technician or electrician if you find scorched or melted wiring, smell burning, see water that has reached electrical components, or if the fault returns immediately after a repair. Never bypass a safety device — thermal fuses, door interlocks and flood switches fail for a reason, and defeating one converts a broken appliance into a fire or flood risk.
