Quick answer

On a Samsung dishwasher, 4E/4C means a water supply error, 5E/5C a drain error, LE/LC a leakage error, and HE a heater error. Samsung documents a full list — most clear with a power reset and a normal cycle, and the drain and supply codes usually trace to the filter, hose or water valve.

The full code list

Code What Samsung says it means
1E / IE Clogged filter (Waterwall models) or high-temperature heater error (rotary models)
3C Pump operation error
3E High-temperature water supply — supply should not exceed 176°F
4C / 4E Water supply error — inadequate water pressure or temperature
5C / SC / 5E / SE Drain error
7E Waterwall reflector error — the reflector cannot move correctly
9E Low water level error
bE / 6E Button error — a stuck button detected
CE Communication error between control panel and dishwasher
HC High-temperature heater error
HE Heater error — temperature detected incorrectly
LC / LE Leakage error — moisture detected by the leak sensor
OC / 0C / oE Over-level water error
PC Zone Wash function error
PE Half load function error
tE Temperature sensor error
AP Access Point mode (for connecting a mobile device)

5E / 5C / SE / SC: Drain error

  1. Check the drain hose

Look for a kinked, pinched or clogged hose and clear it.

  2. Clean the filter and sump

See our filter cleaning guide and won’t drain guide.

  3. Check the disposal connection

A clogged garbage disposal or its knockout plug can block the drain.

OC/oE (over-level water) also traces to drainage, so the same checks apply.

4E / 4C and 9E: Water supply and low water

For 4E/4C, check the water supply requirements, make sure the supply valve is on, and avoid FloodSafe-type hoses that can restrict flow. For 9E (low water level), Samsung’s steps are to empty the dishwasher, add detergent and run a normal cycle; if it persists, switch off power and contact service.

LE / LC: Leakage

This means the leak sensor detected moisture. Samsung notes excess detergent and the garbage disposal cap can be involved. See our dedicated Samsung LC error guide for a full walkthrough, and our door leak guide if water is escaping.

HE, HC, tE, 3E: Heat and temperature

Code First thing to try
HE Empty the dishwasher and run a normal cycle; contact service if it persists
HC Reset power, empty it and run a normal cycle
tE Run a normal cycle; contact service if it persists
3E Make sure your hot water supply does not exceed 176°F

1E / IE: Filter and heater

On Waterwall models, 1E/IE means water is not passing through the filter — clean the fine filter per the manual. On rotary models the same code means a high-temperature heater error; reset power and run a normal cycle.

Buttons, communication and special modes

Most of these just need a restart

bE/6E (stuck button): test each button and clean around the panel. CE (communication): restart the dishwasher. 3C (pump): turn off and restart. AP just means Access Point mode for connecting a phone — restart if you did not intend it. PC and PE are Zone Wash and Half Load function errors; restart, and contact service if they continue.

When to call for service

If a code returns after a power reset and a normal cycle, Samsung’s guidance is to contact service. Pump, heater and sensor faults need parts; see our dishwasher repair cost guide.
