F01 indicates a primary control failure — the main control board, or a component it manages, is not functioning correctly. It is often triggered by a power outage or surge, and a simple power reset clears it in a good number of cases before any part needs replacing.
What F01 means
The primary control board coordinates every function of the dryer — timing, heat, drum rotation and sensor readings. F01 signals that the board itself, or its connection to a component it manages, is not behaving as expected. The dryer may fail to start, stop mid-cycle, or throw the code as soon as a cycle begins.

How to fix it
- Power cycle the dryer
Disconnect it from power completely and leave it off for a few minutes, then reconnect and try a cycle. This clears F01 outright in many cases, particularly after a power outage or surge.
- Check the thermal switch
If the reset does not hold, remove the top and side panels and locate the thermal switch — usually on the blower housing, the heating element, or the gas burner assembly. Test it for continuity with a multimeter; no continuity means it is defective.
Testing the thermal switch means working inside the cabinet near mains wiring and, on gas models, near the burner assembly. If you are not confident doing this safely, skip straight to a technician.
When to call a professional
If a full power reset does not clear F01, or the thermal switch tests fine and the code returns, the electronic control board itself has likely failed and needs professional replacement.
Stop and call a qualified appliance technician or electrician if you find scorched or melted wiring, smell burning, see water that has reached electrical components, or if the fault returns immediately after a repair. Never bypass a safety device — thermal fuses, door interlocks and flood switches fail for a reason, and defeating one converts a broken appliance into a fire or flood risk.
