PE means the LG washer’s pressure sensor — the component that tells the control board how much water is in the tub — is not sending a valid reading. Without it the machine cannot safely manage filling, washing or draining, so it stops rather than risk overfilling or running dry.
What PE means
A thin hose runs from the bottom of the tub up to the pressure sensor, usually mounted high inside the cabinet. Air pressure through that hose tells the sensor the water level. If the hose is loose, kinked, cracked or clogged with residue, or if the wiring between the sensor and the control board is loose or corroded, the machine cannot trust the reading and shows PE.

How to fix it
- Power cycle first
Unplug the washer for about ten seconds, plug it back in, and restart the cycle. This clears a surprising number of PE faults outright.
- Check for an obvious trigger
If PE started right after the machine was moved or reinstalled, a hose or connector was likely knocked loose during the move.
Reaching the pressure hose and sensor connector means removing the top or rear panel next to mains wiring. If the power-cycle step does not clear it, this is a job for a technician rather than an open-cabinet DIY repair.
When to call a professional
If PE returns after a reset, have a technician check the pressure hose for kinks, cracks or blockage, confirm the sensor connector is seated, and replace the sensor if it has failed. This is a common repair on machines around eight years old and older.
Stop and call a qualified appliance technician or electrician if you find scorched or melted wiring, smell burning, see water that has reached electrical components, or if the fault returns immediately after a repair. Never bypass a safety device — thermal fuses, door interlocks and flood switches fail for a reason, and defeating one converts a broken appliance into a fire or flood risk.
